The Opera Workshop Performance went well. It was a lot of singing for all of us. “Parigi, o cara” duet was good. The Witch’s Scene from “Hänsel und Gretel” was very successful, except for little mistakes due to confusion in cues. I wish it was somehow conducted. Betsy of the Opera Buffs saw the performance, and she liked it so much that she suggested it for the Opera Buffs Showcase, and VOILA! I’m singing for the Fall Performers Showcase in October 2003.
I had a lesson last Friday, and was officially assigned 2 Romantic French arias: “La fleur que tu m’avais jetée” and “Ah! fuyez douce image.” The latter I may include for my Met Audition list this coming October, but the former will not.
The Opera Nova Gala went well, too. The audience really liked the duet between me and Maki (Leoncavallo’s La Bohème Duet). We even did some last minute staging. After that a small get-together followed at Brentwood Restaurant in Brentwood.
Britten’s War Requiem was successful. Jonathan Mack as the Tenor Soloist was good, and Tim Noble as the Baritone Soloist was exceptionally great. I am very impressed by this voice, musicality and interpretation. I was able to sing all my A’s and even the A# throughout the piece.
Steven and I had dinner with the Abels and Michael Taylor Gray. We went to Sisley’s on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks. I really liked the food there. (Thanks Aunt and Auntie!) After that, we hung out at Mona’s house and helped her find the best interpretation for select arias to be recorded for Kalil’s Cd. Later that night, Mona and I went out to see “Finding Nemo,” a second time for me, of course. Mona loved it as much as I.
Last but not the least, I went to see Leslie’s Recital at Popper Theater. I really enjoyed it. I love her coloratura and her range extension. She is fun on stage, and very entertaining to listen and watch. Good job, Leslie!
