Rodell Aure Rosel

Rodell Aure Rosel has already attracted interest among the major opera companies in the U.S. from his appearances on the stage of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and at the Metropolitan Opera in the National Council Grand Finals Concert.Mr. Rosel made his debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Remendado in Carmen in 2005, and has, since that time, appeared on their stage as Bardolfo/Falstaff, Blind/Die Fledermaus, Altoum/Turandot, Benvolio/Roméo et Juliette, Ruiz/Il trovatore, the Second Jew/Salome, Borsa/Rigoletto, First Priest/Zauberflöte, and more notable roles. He recently made his debuts with Houston Grand Opera (Squeak/Billy Budd) and Pittsburgh Opera (Goro/Madama Butterfly).

Future engagements in his calendar include Governor/Candide and Tanzmeister/Ariadne auf Naxos with Wolf Trap Opera Company (where he sang Cornaccio/Volpone and Monostatos/Die Zauberflöte last year), and a return to Lyric Opera of Chicago as Prince/Manservant/Marquis in Berg’s Lulu. He will also make his company debut at Florentine Opera as Monostatos/Magic Flute in spring 2009.

An alumnus of the Ryan Opera Center (formerly Lyric Opera Center for American Artists), the Manila native studied at the University of California in Los Angeles, where he sang the title role in Britten’s Albert Herring and leading roles in Mozart, Rossini and Ravel, also appearing as tenor soloist in The Creation, Messiah and the Mozart Requiem. He has sung Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro at Music Academy of the West, as well as Monostatos/Die Zauberflöte, Kaspar/Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Tinca/Il Tabarro, all with Opera Nova-Santa Monica. (He is also an alumnus of Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California.)

In addition to his Grand Prize award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council, Mr. Rosel has received a third-place award from the Palm Beach Opera Vocal Competition, a second-place award at the Lotte Lenya Vocal Competition, and was a finalist at the Loren Zachary National Vocal Competition. He is the recipient of scholarships from, among others, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and the Opera Buffs Career Achievement Award.
