“Zwischenfach” voice with fine characterization ability.
A product of German theater tradition. It is large with plenty of of metal and capable of clear declamation.
The Charaktertenor must have the acting ability of a Spieltenor and often the cutting power of the Heldentenor.

I am so happy to share that all four UCLA students, who are also close friends of mine, won the Palm Springs Opera Guild Vocal Competition last Sunday, December 5, 2004 at 2pm:
Kalil Wilson, tenor – 1st place (senior)
David Williams, baritone – 2nd place (senior)
Karen Vuong, soprano – 3rd place (junior)
Evan Hughes, bass-baritone – 4th place (junior)
GO UCLA!
p.s. Kalil Wilson won 2nd place at the 2004-2005 Metropolitan Opera Western Region Final Auditions, and David Williams was a Regional Semi-finalist: we all represented the Los Angeles District.
