Had a lesson with Marilyn Horne today. We worked on “Quanto è bella” aria from Donizetti’s Elixir of Love. We consistently worked on keep a very open, but not ‘too’ spread, sound, especially on the passaggio. I even remembered how to create the hooty sound. I have to remember how to do that for instances where I really need it. For anyone who’s probably not familiar with my term, hooty, it’s kind of like a very sweet, breathy feeling, but round in texture.
We did a spot check on Opera Scenes. Not a lot of the singers sang a lot. They just run through all blocking and scene changes.
Later in the evening, I played Scrabble with Drew and Sue.
That’s basically it. I may be singing one song for a funeral service tomorrow in Goleta, and I’ll be accompanied by Marie-Ève Scarfone, a vocal pianist from Montréal, Canada. (There, Marie Ève, I mentioned your full name now!)
Check again tomorrow!
